Kněžna Justina ze Schwarzenbergu žila kvůli depresím v odloučení na třeboňském zámku

Jednou ze zajímavých postav české historie je kněžna Marie Justina ze Schwarzenbergu žijící na třeboňském zámku. Historiky upoutala svou duševní nemocí, a kdyby žila v dnešní době, nejspíš by dostala jasnou diagnózu – bipolární porucha. Jak se tato duševní porucha, dříve označovaná jako maniodepresivní psychóza, u hraběnky projevovala a jakou léčbu šlechtična během života absolvovala?

Kněžna Marie Justina ze Schwarzenbergu (nejspíše 1618–1681), původně hraběnka ze Starhembergu, byla česká šlechtična štýrského původu. Provdala se za Jana Adolfa I. ze Schwarzenbergu, který později zastával významné politické postavení. Jejich manželství bylo velmi šťastné, postupně se jim narodilo sedm dětí.

Bohužel, jak už bylo pro tehdejší dobu příznačné, jen dvě z nich se nakonec dožily dospělosti. Prvorozené dítko zemřelo po pár dnech, druhý syn neoslavil ani první narozeniny, další syn se dožil zhruba jednoho roku, podobně i nejmladší dcera, kterou měla Marie Justina ve svých čtyřiceti letech, kdy rodila naposledy. Další dcerka, o níž Justina přišla, žila pouhých sedm let.

Král moru Ferdinand

Dospělosti se dožily pouze dvě děti. Syn Ferdinand Vilém Eusebius, který se později stal významným politikem, stejně jako byl jeho otec. Pro své silné sociální cítění, péči o obyvatelstvo a dodržování hygienických opatření během morové epidemie se mu přezdívalo Král moru. 

Dalším přeživším dítětem byla dcera, Marie Ernestina, řečená Arnoštka. Ta se s manželem zasloužila o barokní přestavbu zámku v Českém Krumlově, hovořila plynně pěti jazyky, přeložila z francouzštiny do němčiny čtrnáct Senecových listů a pro svou sečtělost byla nazývána druhou Pallas Athénou. Její manželství bylo velmi šťastné, ale zůstalo bezdětné.

Manžel ji odklidil do Čech

Manžel Marie Justiny si budoval úspěšnou kariéru. Jan Adolf působil jako císařský tajný rada a v roce 1650 od španělského krále Filipa IV. získal Řád zlatého rouna. S rodinou hodně cestoval a střídavě pobýval v různých evropských městech. 

V roce 1654 se u Justiny objevily první příznaky nemoci, které byly přinejmenším znepokojující. I když její rok narození není přesně známý a historikové jej zjistili spíše odhadem, podle něj by to znamenalo, že první příznaky nemoci kněžnu postihly v šestatřiceti letech. První záchvat se bral spíše jako duševní vyčerpání a léčil se odpočinkem a změnou prostředí.

Justina tehdy odjela na zámek Schwarzenberg v Dolních Francích, kde podstoupila vhodné vybrané lázeňské procedury. Její duševní stav se tak opět brzy vrátil jakžtakž do normálu. Jenomže další ataky nemoci na sebe nenechaly dlouho čekat.

Nejsilněji se nemoc projevila půl roku po posledním porodu, což mohl vyvolat stres z úmrtí dalšího dítěte, protože její poslední holčička Polyxena zemřela jako kojenec. Manžel, který zastával vysokou politickou funkci a pohyboval se na veřejnosti, nakonec duševně nevyrovnanou manželku odklidil do Čech, kde střídavě pod dozorem lékařů a služebnictva pobývala v Třeboni a Hluboké nad Vltavou.

Rozbíjela nádobí, napadala služebnictvo

A jak se nemoc u kněžny projevovala? Pro bipolární poruchu je typické střídání období hluboké deprese a sklíčenosti s manickými stavy, v nichž člověk nezná hranice a může svým nezřízeným chováním ohrožovat i své okolí. U Justiny se střídala období extrémního veselí, kdy holdovala hazardním hrám, služebnictvu rozdávala drahé šaty a šperky, neuváženě nakupovala nákladné zboží, které vůbec nepotřebovala. 

Kromě rozhazovačnosti propadala agresivním záchvatům a výbuchům vzteku, kdy napadala služebné a ničila vše, co jí přišlo pod ruku. Jednou například během záchvatu zničila dvacet kousků zdobeného cínového nádobí. To už se nedalo zachránit a muselo se nechat roztavit. Jindy zase surově zbila služebnou.

Bylo jasné, že Justinu bude potřeba hlídat. Z jejího dosahu odstranili veškeré ostré předměty jako nůžky, jehly, nože, spony a jehlice do vlasů. V depresivní fázi onemocnění naopak ztrácela zájem o své okolí, celé dny zůstávala na lůžku, nejedla, nemluvila a trpěla paranoidními představami, například byla přesvědčená o tom, že ji chtějí otrávit, když se jí snažili podávat na lžičce medicínu. 

Proto kromě jídla odmítala i nápoje a léky. To, že byla navíc odloučena od manžela a dětí, jí na psychickém stavu nepřidalo. Kvůli náročné práci vyžadující pobyt jinde ji manžel navštěvoval pouze párkrát za rok. To se ale Justině ani trochu nelíbilo, proto se několikrát za ním pokusila utéct.

Jeden z jejích útěků, kdy služebnictvo zapomnělo schovat klíče, byl úspěšný. Kněžna se ukryla na zámku v Jindřichově Hradci u staré hraběnky Marie Františky Slavatové, ale tam ji brzy našel třeboňský hejtman, který záležitost dostal na starost. 

Musela tak být zesílena ostraha a Justina se o to více ve svém vězení trápila. Záchvaty se stupňovaly a bylo potřeba, aby ji hlídalo o to více služebných, aby něco vážného neprovedla či si sama neublížila.

Manželovi to jedno nebylo

Protože kníže svou ženu nadevše miloval, nebylo mu jedno, v jakém stavu se nachází. Nechal pro ni v Třeboni založit bylinkovou zahrádku a průběžně vyhledával nejlepší lékaře, ale žádný z nich duševně nemocné kněžně nedokázal spolehlivě pomoct. 

Léčba probíhala různě, pokud ji kněžna vyloženě neodmítala, ale bylo to marné. Pouštění žilou, projímadla, dávidla, pití minerálních vod ani pojídání šťovíku nepomáhalo. Jednou kníže konzultoval stav své ženy se slavným kapucínským kazatelem. Marco d´Aviano mu tehdy dal zvláštní požehnání napsané na lístku, které zoufalý manžel své ženě nechal upevnit tajně pod šaty s vírou v alespoň nějaký úspěch či zázrak.

V zimě roku 1681 se stav Justiny velice zhoršil. To už jí bylo třiašedesát let, na tehdejší dobu slušný věk. Trpěla návaly horka, zimnicí, bolestmi kloubů, mravenčením v noze, plicním katarem, nemohla spát a brzy nato prodělala mrtvici a nemohla mluvit. Přivolaný lékař Kurz po svém předchozím úspěšném zásahu už ale nemohl nic dělat, tak rovnou zavolali kněze. 31. ledna kněžna zemřela v osamění, její rodina se k ní nestihla dostat včas. Milovaný manžel pak Justinu přežil o dva roky.

Marie Justina ze Schwarzenbergu se tak zřejmě stala prvním historicky zdokumentovaným případem bipolární poruchy. Žádná léčba úspěšná tehdy neexistovala a jedinou možností, jak zabránit tomu, aby duševně nemocná žena někomu, či sobě, ublížila, byla izolace a život v osamění.
