Popíjení zeleného čaje má v Číně tradici téměř pět tisíc let. Mnohem později objevily kouzlo zeleného čaje i „západní“ civilizace. Vysloužil si pověst všeléku, který nás zaručeně ochrání před rakovinou či infarktem. A jako bonus pomůže bojovat s přebytečnými kily. Není divu, že se ocitl v hledáčku výzkumných týmů.

Legendami je ostatně opředeno už samotné objevení čaje. O to se údajně zasloužil čínský císař Šen-nung, kterému podle pověsti při ohřívání vody spadly do kotlíku i lístky čajovníku. Císaři se po vypití nápoje vlila do žil netušená energie, takže si zelený čaj začal připravovat pravidelně a po jeho vzoru tak činili i jeho podaní.

Zelený čaj se z Číny postupně rozšířil do Indie a zbytku Asie, obrovskou popularitu si vydobyl především v Japonsku. 

V posledních letech se začal prosazovat i v západních civilizacích, kde stál dlouho ve stínu černého čaje. Získal si renomé „zdravého“ nápoje. Jak je to ale s jeho léčebnými účinky doopravdy?

Prevence rakoviny i srdečních chorob

Zelný čaj obsahuje množství flavonoidů, které patří mezi známé antioxidanty. Výzkum japonské univerzity v Tahoku uveřejněný v časopise Journal of the Mediacal Association potvrdil, že pravidelná konzumace zeleného čaje pomáhá snížit riziko onemocnění rakovinou kůže, prsu, plic a tlustého střeva. Právě pravidelná konzumace litru zeleného čaje denně by podle vědců mohla stát i za faktem, že v Asii, kde je velmi rozšířené kouření, umírá jen velmi málo lidí na rakovinu plic.

Další studie čínských vědců zveřejněná v časopise Archives of International Medicine zase prokázala, že pití zeleného čaje je skvělou prevencí srdečních chorob a jiný výzkum, který byl publikován v magazínu American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, prokázal, že pravidelná konzumace zeleného čaje je spojená s nižšími poruchami kognitivních funkcí.

Vědci ale stále zůstávají poněkud skeptičtí k vlivu konzumace zeleného čaje na redukci hmotnosti. „Hubnoucí“ pověst si čaj vysloužil poté, co v roce 2006 v americké show Oprah Winfreyové vystoupil dietolog Dr. Nicholas Perricone, který tvrdil, že popíjení zeleného čaje vám denně pomůže spálit 70–80 kilokalorií. Tyto teorie ale zatím nejsou podloženy relevantním výzkumem.

Jak se propít ke zdraví?

Pokud to se zeleným čajem myslíte vážně, zapomeňte na pytlíky, granule či ledový čaj v lahvi – v těch je méně léčivých složek – a pořiďte si kvalitní sypanou směs. V kulturách, kde je rozšířeno pití zeleného čaje, se tento rituál většinou provozuje třikrát denně.

Ideální je nechat jej louhovat přibližně tři až pět minut, aby se uvolnily všechny léčivé látky. Všeobecným pravidlem u zelených čajů je zalévání vodou, která prošla varem, ale zchladla na 60–80 °C. Teplota je velmi důležitá – pokud budete spěchat, a zalijete čaj horkou vodou, bude mít hořkou pachuť, jestliže bude voda příliš chladná, bude mít mdlou až vodovou chuť.

„U čajů jsem pro to, aby se střídaly. Abychom pořád nepili jen černý nebo zelený. Snažme se ale více pít vodu,“  říká v rozhovoru MUDr. Kateřina Cajthamlová.

Pozor na kofein

Nic se ale nemá přehánět. V Americe získal zelený čaj díky vytrvalé marketingové masáži nálepku všeléku a tak není divu, že lékaři varují zdraví chtivé Američany, aby to se zelným čajem nepřeháněli a nepopíjeli víc než deset šálků denně. Rozhodně by se totiž nemělo zapomínat na to, že obsahuje kofein, který u některých lidí způsobuje problémy s nespavostí, podrážděnost a nevolnost. I když kofein obsažený v zeleném čaji je zdravější než ten v kávě, protože je vázán na třísloviny, uvolňuje se pomaleji a tím působí déle, nedráždí tolik žaludeční stěny.

Podle výzkumu profesora Chunga Yanga z americké Rutgersovy univerzity v New Jersey, jehož výsledky zveřejnil časopis Chemical Research in Toxicology, může vést nadměrné holdování tomuto nápoji k poškození jater a ledvin.Takže pokud na zelený čaj nedáte dopustit, určitě mějte na paměti, že i v jeho případě platí staré dobré „všeho s mírou“.
