Doplňky stravy

Doplňky stravy – výrobky s vysokým obsahem vitaminů, minerálních látek nebo jiných látek s nutričním nebo fyziologickým účinkem (látky obsažené v doplňcích stravy se označují jako potravní doplňky). Jejich účelem je doplnění běžné stravy spotřebitele na úroveň příznivě ovlivňující jeho zdravotní stav. Obvykle jsou doplňky stravy upraveny do formy kapslí či tobolek, pastilek, tablet, dražé, sáčků s práškem, ampulek s tekutinou, kapek nebo jiných jednoduchých forem tekutin a prášků určených pro příjem v malých odměřených množstvích. Uvádějí se do oběhu pouze balené.

Při označování doplňků a při jejich reklamě, se nesmí doplňkům stravy přisuzovat vlastnosti prevence, léčby nebo vyléčení lidských onemocnění nebo odkazovat na tyto vlastnosti. Nesmí se uvádět žádné tvrzení prohlašující nebo naznačující, že vyvážená a různorodá strava nemůže poskytnout dostatečné množství živin.

Užívání doplňků stravy je diskutovanou problematikou. Existuje obava, že prostřednictvím těchto prostředků může docházet k nadměrnému příjmu některých látek. Někteří odborníci na výživu doporučují konzumaci doplňků stravy jen v situacích, kdy je zvýšená potřeba určité látky (těhotné ženy, sportovci, rekonvalescenti apod.), a nejlépe po poradě s lékařem, a prosazují, aby příjem potřebných látek byl dosahován pestrou stravou.
